Despite being one of the DStv Premiership's top performers, Keagan Johannes continues to be overlooked for Bafana Bafana. The defender, however, is unfazed by this and continues to work hard towards a call-up.

Over the last two seasons, Johannes has been one of SuperSport's most impressive players. He has shown his versatility, being even able to slot in at right back or centre back with relative ease.

His performances saw him included in the u23 team in 2023, but the step up to the senior team continues to evade him, for now.

Despite his snub at national team level, Johannes continues to chip away for Matsatsantsa in hopes that it will eventually catch the eye of coach Hugo Broos and his national team selectors.

“I’d like to believe that everyone is chosen on merit at the end of the day and for me, I’ll just keep on working hard. I believe that if I trust in God, my time will come. If it’s not now, eventually it will come,” he told journalists at a Huawei event in Johannesburg.

“So, I keep on supporting the guys that are there and I keep on working hard every day and obviously that is a goal that I want because it’s a joy and a pride for me to wear the national team jersey, having captained the team at u23, it’s a milestone for me being in the Bafana squad and I’m definitely working hard towards that," he said.

Johannes has made 21 appearances in all competitions for SuperSport this season.
