Shortly after Bafana Bafana's AFCON third-place finish, talk of a possible exit from the national team for the Belgian grew louder.

Adding fuel to the speculation was the coach's tell-all podcast in Belgium where he not only revealed his desire to resign from his post a day after Bafana scooped bronze - but that he was open to taking up the Technical Director role at his former club in his own land.

Now, as Bafana Bafana touched down in Algeria for the FIFA Series international friendlies pilot project, the 71-year-old provided clarity on his future as the national team coach.

"First of all, about Brugge. I only know that I'm a candidate there and there is nothing more or nothing less than that. So, I know that in the Belgian media they spoke about it, but again, there is nothing for the moment, nothing at all," he told journalists in a press conference via a Zoom meeting.

"And I said already after AFCON, if you do such performances with the team, then automatically there is there is interest in you as the coach and I heard the rumours that Algeria was interested, that Tunisia was interested and some other teams also Brugge now. But again, there are no negotiations. I didn't see the people of Brugge. I know only that I'm on the list as one of the candidates, so let's see what happens in the in the future.

"And what I always answered on that question, I have the contract till 2026 with South Africa. So if there will be a moment that maybe I can leave or want to leave South Africa then I still have to negotiate with the with people of SAFA. So, for the moment it's just rumours and nothing more," he concluded.

Bafana Bafana take on Andorra and Algeria in friendly matches that are scheduled for 21 and 26 March.
