Los Blancos have been courting the France captain ever since his days at AS Monaco, but having made a number of attempts to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu, they have so far proved unsuccessful.
However, with his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expiring at the end of the season and it being reported he has no intention of signing an extension with the club, it appears as though Los Blancos are finally going to get their man.
The Bondy native is not the only football superstar Los Merengues are believed to be keen on, though, with murmurs of a possible Erling Haaland transfer having also begun to become more prevalent.
LALIGA president Javier Tebas believes that while a transfer for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is near completion, a move for the most recent Ballon d'Or runner-up is unlikely at this moment.
"I would like to see the best in our competitions. I give Mbappe a 99.99% chance that he will play next season for Real Madrid. Haaland is more complicated. He has been at City for a short time to consider leaving," the 61-year-old said, as per Goal.
Real president Florentino Perez is constructing yet another star-studded squad to maintain the club's position as one of the powerhouses of world football, and while Madridistas may adore him because of it, Tebas does not believe the power he wields is good for the beautiful game.

"I defend myself as best I can. Florentino is transversal," Tebas added. "With [Silvio] Berlusconi we knew he was right-wing, here Florentino is with everyone. He has a lot of influence, too much... That's not good for the country or for football."
