Liverpool have reportedly given up on their pursuit of Xabi Alonso and will now turn their attention to two other candidates to replace Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds and Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with the Bayer Leverkusen coach as both clubs will have new managers next season.

Klopp confirmed last month he will leave Anfield in June, while Bayern will be parting ways with Thomas Tuchel after a rough Bundesliga campaign.

However, Various reports now state that Alonso is not expected to leave Leverkusen at the end of the season.

ESPN have reported that  Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim are now leading candidates to take at Anfield next season.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano stated that Amorim's name has already been discussed within the club but he is not he only one.

Bayern Munich's honorary president Uli Hoeness stated this week that a move for Alonso would be tough.

"[Alonso] is more inclined to stay at Bayer Leverkusen in view of their current successes, because he would not want to leave them behind," Hoeness said, as per BBC.
